National Day Independence Day
15th August is celebrated as Independence day in our country every year. On this day in 1947, India had gained freedom from the British.
To celebrate Independence day the national flag, Tricolour is hoisted. Then, National Anthem is sung while people stand in attention.
The main function is held at Red Fort, Delhi. The Prime Minister hoists the National Flag on its rampart and addresses the nation. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first Prime Minister to do that on August 15, 1947.
The children attend Independence Day celebration organised by their schools. People fly Tricolour kites to celebrate the occassion. Thousands of kites dot the skies. Functions and debates are organised. Sweets and fruits are distributed to the poor and orphans.
