Mahatma Gandhi bapu
Mahatma Gandhi is the father of our nation. He led the independence movement of India and won us freedom on August 15, 1947.
Born on October 2, 1868 at Porbander town of Gujarat. He was married to Kasturba at an early age of 12. He earned law degree from London. He became a lawyer and went to South Africa to fight a case. There he saw the bad condition of Indians who were being treated like animals.
He began a fight to gain Indians their rights from the European rulers. He called his fight ‘Satyagraha’ which was a non-violent struggle. He won. Then he came to India and began similar movement against the British who ruled India.
The people were united against British under his leadership. Finally, Mahatma Gandhi put such a pressure on the British that they had to leave India.
He was popularly known as ‘Bapu’ to others. On January 30, 1948 an evil youngman fired three bullets from his pistol at Bapu and killed him.
